3 Band Ideas for Choosing and Designing Your Handmade Engagement Ring
Choosing your engagement ring is one of the bigger moments in life and you can be forgiven for feeling the pressure to get it right. Today I will show you how to let the artisan process guide your instinct, whether it’s an original ZadokGold handmade design or one that we create together.
Over the years I have learned that a ring declares itself to me, especially the style of band and how it compliments the diamond. It’s a beautiful part of my work here in Ein Karem, Israel.
Before we begin, you might want to check your ring size here.
When choosing your engagment ring a good place to start is by choosing the base of your engagement ring - the band - which wraps around your finger and is also known as the shank. This can be any style and there are many examples on my site but today we are going to focus on two aspects that really showcase the flexibility of artisan jewelry: width, meaning thick or thin; and surface, meaning textured or smooth:
Thin and smooth band
This thin and smooth engagement ring band is made from 18k matte yellow gold. It’s elegant and slim, light on the finger with the band wrapped around the stone to creates a sense of continual flow. The idea is very powerful. It’s a neutral Zadok design that matches my solid gold wedding ring and I offer variations so if diamond is not your stone, you could choose maybe a rose or white gold band and perhaps a ruby or sapphire?
Thin and textured
This thick gold diamond engagement ring has an antique hammered texture, inspired by one of the trees just outside my studio here in Israel. The antique finish is complimented by claw-like prongs that hold this beautiful half carat diamond. It’s a real contrast to my smoother pieces, very primal.
Thick and textured
This engagement band might look like it’s smooth but is actually textured, which brings a sense of versatility compared to the styles we’ve looked at so far. It’s a great idea for an engagement piece if you want a ring that can be dressed up or toned down according to your mood or activity. It looks great contrasted with this thick gold wedding band.
